Ralf Waldo Emerson's Nature Essays

Today I read essays by Ralf Waldo Emerson on nature. He articulated our spiritual relationship with nature in 1836. Many artists such as Emily Carr, Robert Bateman, Lawren Harris and Roy Hendry Vickers also demostrate this deep connection with nature and spirituality in their work.  Emerson writes that poets animate nature with words and philosophers with truth and they are both one and the same. One of his insights with respect to our relationship with nature, Ralf Waldo Emerson said is that “the reason the world lacks unity is because man is disunited with himself”. This I believe is just as true today, if not more so.
